Change it! update
The Change it! Campaign has made great progress in the last six months. The campaign, which calls for children to stop being housed in unsuitable Bed and Breakfast (B&B) accommodation for longer than the six-week legal limit, launched online in February. It received a brilliant response on social media with our Twitter activity on the day reaching nearly 248k accounts and our dedicated Change It Facebook page attracted 89 likes in the first 24 hours. Children and young people are now able to download the campaign pack on our website and sign up as young activists. Being a young activist is an exciting opportunity for children and young people under the age of 18 to learn more about the issues, gain campaign skills, including writing to decision makers, and have the opportunity to meet their MPs. We are now focussed on building the young activist campaign network and have a series of national outreach meetings planned between and June and September to recruit more children and young people. If you are working with young people that you think would like to get involved please get in touch!
Due to the snap General Election our mass lobbying event, which was due to take place in July, will now take place in October 2017. The research phase of the project begins in June when we will meet with the steering group to upskill them to in research skills. As part of the research, the steering group and CRAE staff will be talking to children and young people nationally who have experienced living in B&Bs for longer than the six week legal limit.
