Promoting the Right to Participate

We promote children’s right to participate in decision-making.

Article 12 of the UNCRC says that children should be able to express their views on decisions which affect them, and that their views should be given due weight, in accordance with their age and maturity. This right applies to both decisions affecting individual children, as well as broader strategic decision-making.

We work with other organisations, as part of the Participation Works Partnership, to make sure this right is reflected in law, policy and in practice.

At the moment, this work focuses on the provisions in the Children and Families Bill which change the system of support for children with disabilities and special educational needs. Read the Participation Works briefing to find out more.
