In July 2021, CRAE and Just for Kids Law responded to the Department for Education's consultation on introducing national standards for unregulated provision.
We rejected the usefulness of suggested indicators marking a distinction between 'support' and 'care', as we believe all children should be cared for. We also expressed concern that these standards would further marginalise the group of 16- and 17-year-olds who are housed by their local authorities in unregulated accommodation but are not looked-after and to whom the standards would not apply.
