  • Government to put Bill of Rights plan on hold The Justice Minister, Oliver Healed MP QC, has confirmed that plans for a British Bill of Rights have been put on hold until after Brexit. Read more Feb 2017
  • Children in custody CRAE has long advocated for a child-focused justice system that protects children’s rights (as set out in the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child) and we contributed to Charlie Taylor’s independent review of the youth justice system.   • Minister announces unprecedented programme of measures to embed the CRC We welcome the programme of measures that the Minister for Vulnerable Children and Families, Edward Timpson MP, has announced, to embed the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) into national and local policy making.   • New General comment on adolescent rights The UN Committee on the Rights of the Child (UN Committee) has published a new General Comment on implementation of the rights of a child during adolescents. Read more Feb 2017
  • New youth rights movement launched A new initiative, Make Our Rights Reality (MORR), coordinated by Youth Access, was launched in January. MORR is a national project, aiming to teach young people (aged 15 to 25) about their rights and to give them a voice to challenge injustice. Read more Feb 2017
  • Children’s rights and policing CRAE has been working to improve police treatment of children and young people in London through our own policy and campaigning work and by supporting and co-ordinating the campaigning of other voluntary sector organisations. Read more Feb 2017
  • Change it! - New child-led campaign launching soon Following the publication of the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child’s Concluding Observations on the UK, we supported our See it, Say it, Change it steering group to select a campaign issue based on the UN Committee’s recommendations. After much deliberation and discussion the group decided to focus on homelessness. Read more Feb 2017
  • New publications from CRAE CRAE published two new briefings in our Children Speak Out series on transgender issues and policing and criminal justice. In December, to coincide with International Human Rights Day, we also published our flagship annual report State of Children’s Rights in England 2016. Read more Feb 2017
  • Unlocking Children’s Rights: New Children’s Rights Resource from Coram Coram Children’s Legal Centre has developed an innovative new training resource to strengthen the capacity of professionals in the EU, to fulfil the rights of vulnerable children. Read more Feb 2017
