Promoting the right to participate

We promote children’s right to participate in decision-making.  Article 12 of the UNCRC says that children should be able to express their views on decisions that affect them and that their views should be given due weight, in accordance with their age and maturity. This right applies to both decisions affecting individual children as well as broader policy and decision-making.

The United Nations General comment No. 12 (2009): The right of the child to be heard provides guidance on implementing children's rights to participate in decisions that affect them, including in different settings.
