We have published our our civil society alternative report to the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child, endorsed by 97 children’s charities from across England (read our press release).
The report is part of the UK's examination under the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) and sets out civil society's assessment of how well the UK is respecting children's rights. It reveals that, due to Government failures, children’s rights have worsened in many areas since the UN’s last examination in 2016. Although there have been some improvements, the report concludes that children remain worryingly low on the political agenda in England.
The report highlights many issues including, rising child poverty, cuts to children’s services, worsening children's mental health, the widening educational attainment gap, violence against children in institutions, racial disproportionality in the education and criminal justice systems, and severe regression in relation to the rights of children in the immigration system.
